Selous is at its best slowly. With one night you can take the boat out in the softer light of the afternoon, drive again early the next morning, and still be back on Zanzibar the next day.
You stay in a mid-range camp in or near the park; we name it when we confirm your dates.
Day by day
Day 1: Zanzibar to Selous
Morning flight from Zanzibar to an airstrip in the park. Your guide meets you for a game drive on the way to camp. After lunch and a rest, the afternoon is spent on the boat or on a second drive, back at camp by dark.
Day 2: Morning in the park and back
An early game drive or boat trip while the animals are active, then to the airstrip for the flight back to Zanzibar and our driver to your hotel.
Small planes allow about 15 kg of luggage per person, hand luggage included, best in a soft bag; we confirm your airline's limit when we book. Flights can be delayed by weather or air traffic; if that happens, we adjust the day so you lose as little time in the park as possible.

2-day Selous safari: questions
What is special about a night in Selous?
The park feels remote and quiet, and evenings and mornings by the river are the most active times for wildlife. You often hear hippos from camp at night, and sometimes lions.
When is the best time to go?
June to October is dry and the best time for wildlife. From about March to May many camps close or reduce for the rains; November to February is green and warm.
Is the boat safari safe?
Boat trips are run by experienced crews who know the river and keep a safe distance from hippos and crocodiles. Follow the crew's instructions at all times.
Two days in Selous or two days in Mikumi?
Selous adds the river and the boat; Mikumi is cheaper and its open plains make animals easier to see. Both are good first safaris.
