Camping keeps the cost down without giving up privacy: the vehicle, guide and cook are for your group only. You sleep three nights in tents, two of them inside the Serengeti.
The first night is in a simple lodge near Mto wa Mbu, the next two at a public campsite in the central Serengeti and the last on the Ngorongoro Crater rim. Your crew pitches the tents and the cook prepares every meal.
Expect simple comforts and big rewards: hyenas calling at night, a sunset over the plains, an early start straight into the crater.

Day 3
A full day in the central Serengeti
The Seronera valley has water and grazing all year, so its animals stay in every season. Your guide looks for lions, leopards and cheetahs, along with elephants, giraffes, hippos and big herds. Packed lunch on the plains and the same campsite at night.

Day 4
Back to the crater rim
A last morning drive in the Serengeti, then east and up into the Ngorongoro highlands, where open savannah gives way to cool, often misty forest. You camp near the crater rim, ready for an early start. Nights here are cold, so keep warm layers handy.

Questions
Before you book
How is this different from the group safaris?
Here the vehicle, guide and cook are only for you, and you choose the date. On the group safaris you share with up to five others on fixed days.
Is camping safe?
Campsites inside the parks are unfenced but used every night by many safari groups. Your guide explains the simple rules, such as not walking around in the dark alone.
How cold does it get?
The Serengeti nights are mild. On the crater rim, at about 2,300 metres, it can get close to freezing on some nights, so bring a warm sleeping bag and a jacket.
