The day trip by train is long; staying one night makes it easy. You see Mikumi in the late afternoon and again at first light, the hours when animals are most active.
You ride the SGR express from Dar es Salaam to Morogoro, where your guide is waiting with the vehicle. After lunch you game drive on the Mkata floodplain and sleep at a lodge or tented camp near the park.
Next morning there is an early drive before lunch and the train back.

It gives you the two best times of day in the park. With more time, the 4-day Mikumi & Udzungwa trip adds a full day and a waterfall hike.
What animals live in Mikumi?
Elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, wildebeest, impalas and hippos are common, and lions are seen fairly often.
Can we start from Zanzibar?
Yes. See our Mikumi trips from Zanzibar by plane, or by ferry and train.
