Two parks next door to each other but nothing alike. Mikumi's open floodplain is full of elephants and giraffes; the Udzungwa Mountains are steep rainforest with monkeys, birds and the Sanje waterfalls.
You drive from Dar es Salaam to Mikumi, about 5 hours, for an afternoon game drive and a full day on the Mkata floodplain. Then you head south to Mang'ula and hike up through the forest to the falls, with views over the Kilombero valley.
The hike needs moderate fitness: a steep forest trail with steps, about 4 to 5 hours there and back.
