Mikumi and Nyerere make a good pair: Mikumi for open plains where animals are easy to see, Nyerere for the river, the boat and the feeling of real wilderness.
You drive from Dar es Salaam to Mikumi, about 320 km and 5 hours, for two nights and a full day of game drives. Then a long drive east and south to Nyerere for a game drive and a boat trip on the Rufiji.
It is a road trip, with long drives on days 1, 3 and 5, but it costs far less than flying between the parks.
